Been a while

Ok, I know it's been a while but I haven't really taken that many photos recently. I did get my new 'baby' and have used it a bit at work but haven't really used it much since then. A couple of weeks ago I used it at the "Occupy Wallstreet" protest in Paris. I think I got some good photos, but I haven't really looked at them. It did get a little crazy when we got chased by the police and pushed aside. Today I did have a proper photo shoot with a model that I met on ModelMayhem.com. A friend of mine (Amanda) helped me by doing the make up. We did some shots in the metro and in the cemetery. I used my 60D and my pentax ME super. With the pentax I finished off my role of 160vc and started an Ilford 100. Still debating weather or not to develop the color film now or wait until i finish off the B&W.

My new baby

I finally grew up and got myself a new digital camera. I wanted to get one that would last me a while and something that wasn't just a nice camera but actually a really good camera. Kendal offered me her old camera if I wanted to pay to get it fixed, but after I played with her replacement camera...I couldn't take it. I ended up getting her replacement camera: a Canon 60D! It's so pretty, I love it! Yesterday I went out and took some photos with it and had so much fun. It's nice to have a nice camera who's photos can be seen right away. I still love film and will keep taking cameras with my Pentax but it's nice to have two options for cameras.

Working on my portfolio

Since I just got back a large number of photos I decided to finalize my model portfolio. I decided that it might be a good idea to get a portfolio together to take over the the design school and try to get some work by talking to their stylists and models. I put together 20 photos of different models that I thought would go over well with a crowd from the design school. I tried to get a nice mix of photos together: high fashion, candid, nudes, different lighting... It was difficult to narrow it down to 20 photos but I think I did a good job of picking the best ones. I printed them out on A4 paper (because I was told that they would fit the portfolio books nicely). I ended up getting a much larger book and will have to tape the photos in. All in all they all look really nice printed out in a large format.

Finally Using my Photo Studio

It has been a while since I have posted here, but this does not mean that I have not been taking photos. A few weeks ago Kendal went to a study to do some photos that she wanted to do. She had a coupon for a private photo shooting that she had to book a few months ago. She wanted to do a Josephine Baker shot. They had a make up artist but no one to do her hair, which she ended up doing by herself. In the end she was only allowed to pick one photo that she liked and they will have it touched up and printed and given to her in a few weeks. Since she could only keep one we decided to do an impromptu photo shot at my place so that we could take advantage of her hair and make up. Last we a friend of mine asked me if I wanted to join her for a midnight walk around Paris to take photos. Having it been a while since I took photos of Paris at night I decide to join and see what we could get. Turns out she didn't really want to take photos of Paris but more wanted me to take photos of her. I wish she had told me this before hand so that I would have been able to load faster film into my camera as well as bringing some b&w film. We got a few good photos but it was too dark to do anything that I really liked. Shortly after that I was able to use the photo studio that I've been working at for the first time with Kendal very quickly before I had to go to work. That first day we were rushed and got a few but not many, and most of which we used Kendal's Cannon 60D. We went back and did a few more using a different Cannon camera as well as my 100 & 3200 Ilford film. We got some that we both really liked from the Cannon and just recently picked up the film. Loved them.

Photos from Cannes & the 14th

I got my photos back from Cannes, the 14th as well as the fete de la musique the other day. While taking them I wasn't too sure about how I felt about them. When I got them back there were actually some that I really liked and others that I was just ok with. There was one of them that I could really like but there was someone's head in the way. All in all I think that my roles were well used. I liked both the black and white and the color ones.

Bastille Day!

Woke up early and went to see the parade in the morning to see what might be interesting to take photos of. It was a little difficult because there were so many people and not really anything that I wanted to photograph. There were a few photos that I took but I'm not expecting too much from. That night I went to see the fireworks after work, I finished late and could not make it to the Champs de Mars and thought I would take this as an opportunity to see them from a different angle. I started at the Louvre but could not see very well and started moving down towards Place de Concord. I think that I got some good photos all up and down the river but we will see. I used Kodak 400vc and Ilford B&W 3200. the light gauge on the B&W camera was acting funny so I'm not sure if they will come out.

I dropped off the film today, including the trip to Cannes.
Will get them back Monday

Cannes

Last week I took a trip down to Cannes for the weekend, because I have never been there and also because I felt that I had to leave Paris for a few days. I brought my camera with me and too a few pictures, but not many. We'll see how they turn out. I still have the photos from the Fete de la Musique to get developed as well.

Fete de la Musique

Last week was the Fete de la Musique which is a festival that takes place once a year in the streets of Paris. Local artists play in the streets all day long. This year I decided to go out and take pictures. We found a band that was playing that attracted many young children dancing around them. I think that I got some good photos of it. We'll see how they come out.

Paris in the Rain!

Lately it has been raining a lot and often here in Paris and after watching the movie “Midnight in Paris” I thought it might be wise to try to photograph it. I ran home and grabbed my cameras and went out to take some photos of Paris under a sheet of rain. However by the time that I got to my destination (Concorde) the rain had already stopped. I took a few photos but not as many as I had hoped. I then went out and picked up some Ilford film for the next time that it will rain

Role of 400vc with Kendal in the park

For the past few weeks I have been playing with a role of Kodak 400vc while taking photos with Kendal for Stella's project as well as with the photos that we did in park Saint Cloud. I have not really looked at many of the photos yet, but I do like the ones that I have looked at so far. One of the things that I love about the vc is that when used in natural light it makes all of the colors alot brighter and sharper.

Crossroads photo contest 2

We took some more photos for the crossroads photo contest the other day. This time we went back to Javel to take some more "upscale" photos. Once again we mostly just used Kendal's Cannon Rebel, but I did also finish off my role of Kodak 400vc.

Using these photos and the photos from Parc St. Cloud we selected 5 photos to have photo shopped. After we get those back we will then pick 3 to enter into the contest.

Crossroads photo contest

Yesterday Kendal and I went out to take photos for a contest that Crossroads Trading Co. is having. I decided to take her over to Parc Sainte Cloude to take some photos in the grass and in the woods. We mostly used her Cannon Rebel Ti but I brought my MEsuper with some Kodak 400vc loaded. I only took a few photos with the 400vc and enjoyed how many of the digital photos came out.
The weather was not best, it was pretty cloudy and we didn’t get the sun that I wanted. Over all I think that most of the photos worked. We experimented with different moves and different wardrobes and different settings on the camera.
The majority of the photos that we took were in a field of grass; there were others in a drainage ditch and others by a lake.

Shoot for Stella with Kendal

Yesterday I helped out my friend Stella by doing a photo shoot with her and Kendal. Stella needed to do some fashion photos for school and I thought it would be a good opportunity for me to do some actually fashion shoots. She ended up not being about to get a model for the shoot so I asked Kendal if she could step in and do it for us, she kindly said yes.
We did the shoot at the same place that we did the photos of Marylou and will most likely be doing many more shoots there. Stella had about six different changes that she wanted to use. We started shooting and shot fast because of the short amount of time that we had to work with the sun. It ended up being very cold and Kendal was surely suffering.
I'm still not sure how to fully use a digital camera but I believe that we got some good shots and that Stella will be able to use some of them. I did bring my camera with Kodak 400vc loaded in it, but only took a few photos.
We well see how those turn out later on when I finish the role and have time to get them developed.

Marylou's shoot part 3

I got my photos back today, as I worried many of them came out too blurry, too dark or our of focus, but many still did come out. I had better luck with the b&w photos than I did on the color considering that they speed of the film was a lot faster. There were a few that I really liked and others that I think could be good with a little editing.
We'll see what happens

Marylou's shoot part 2

Well I finally talked Marylou into doing a photo shoot with me. I believe that I said earlier that I found a place that I really liked and wanted to do photos there. My plan was to show up about an hour before the sunset, allowing for thirty mins for make up, an hour of shooting with the sun and then about an hour of shooting after the sunsets. We ended up getting the make up started later than I had hoped as well as it taking a little longer than expected. We started shooting at about 8:20 which was only 20mins before the sun went down. I used many different types of film for these photos. We used 5 roles; 3 b&w and 2 1/2 color. All of the color film was Kodak 800 but I used Ilford 400 & 3200 and Kodak 3200 for the b&w. From the start I was a little worried about the lighting but thought it might be fine with the lights that were around.
Marylou started off a little shy but quickly got into it. She brought many different things that would work with ideas that she had.
I think that we got some pretty good shoots. There were many ideas that we all liked.
Amanda did a great job at the make up and Marylou did a great job at modeling.

Marylou's shoot part 1

So it has been a while since I've updated my blog so right now I am going to update it in three parts; website, photo shoot, and what came out of the photo shoot. Here is part 1

I have added more photos to my website and changed the format a little. I shrank the each photo down to 150px from 250px. I also changed the format of the profile photos making them landscape. Because of this i was giving a lot more room on the page to add some more photos. Now each page had 18 photos to them. They are set up on a 3x6 layout which I think makes the whole page look better.

The week of April 4th

Haven't done too much this week. Today on Thursday I just got back from walking around Paris with my camera. Didn't take too many photo but I think that I might have gotten one good one.
Today I also worked on my "logo" for my website. Something simple but should work.

Most recent photo shot

Last week I did a photo shot with a friend from work. I was slightly worried about how the photos would come out because we were pretty rushed as we did them between the time that she was at school and before she had to go to dance class. We shot the photos in two locations; a fun wall that I found near Montmartre as well as some indoor shots at my place. We did the photos in both color (Kodak 800) and b&w (Ilford 400 & 3200). I have never used the 3200 before but I am pretty happy with if after my first time. This was the first time that my model had modeled which worried me at first, but turned out to work well. She was opened to try the photos that I wanted to do as well as had a few ideas of her own.
All in all it was a good shot but was too rushed. I got some photos out of it that I really liked and will be using soon in the near future. I will add them to my website but probably not before changing the gallery.

It's up!

Well I've finally gotten my website up, and I'm ready for people to start to take a look at it. It's still not how I would like it to be but I can still work to change it from time to time. Right now everything is up except that I would like to change the format of the galleries. I will hopefully have that all finished by next week.
Until then enjoy what I have so far and feel free to give me any feed back that you would like to share.

Even closer

Well, I have gotten even closer to having this look the way that I want. None of the pages are perfect. They are all the wrong size, but at least i have something up. The next step is going to be long and will for sure give me a head ache. I am going to have to add all of the photos. Fun.

improvement

Ok, I think I'm actually getting some where. I have the front page not 100% the way that I would like it, but it's not too far off from what I would consider exceptable. Not all of the things that I wanted to have done, I know how to do (or even is possible with my knowledge). Well one more late night under my belt... will hope to have something up soon.

Did it...well sort of

I did it, I found out how to upload my content to my website. I stayed up all night but I figured it out. Now I have to figure out how to add the home page as well as simple things like putting the buttons where I want them!

New Beginning

I have tried working on this blog a few times but never kept with it.
however...
I think that this time I can continue working on it on a daily basis and keep it going.
A few days ago I bought a domain name for a website: www.kealanwardle.com
I am going to use this page as a way to show my photos a little more professionally. While thinking of ideas I thought about adding a video page on the website to better explain where I was and what I was doing when the photos were taken. In the end I decided that it might be better for me to add the videos as well as some commentary to this blog instead.
We'll see how it goes.

But, in the mean time I can catch you up on my new website.
Like I wrote earlier, I have just purchased www.kealanwardle.com and have been trying to create my own website from scratch using HTML code. I studied computer programing in College and figured that if a thirteen year old can make websites dedicated to Justin Bieber than it can't be too hard. So far it is driving me crazy. I can't figure out what I need or how to do it or how one thing relates to another. I have started writing the code for the page, but I can not for the life of me figure out how to then move it online to my page.

will keep you posted.
